Oh Four Tired Feet!

Wow, what a day. We left home on 24th St -right at 8th Ave around 9:30 to walk to the theatre on 42nd St. to get our tickets. When we got to the box office we were also handed a guest pass to the Langworthy Lounge - which is an exclusive benefit of the Chairman's Circle program. OohLaLa. Then we decided to walk towards Grand Central Station at Park Ave. Along the way we stopped in Bryant Park and sat for about 10 minutes to look at our map and do a bit of people watching; then around the corner to the New York City Library. It is an awe inspiring building, very European- all in marble. The steps going up are worn down from all the people who have walked there in the past. On to the station- another awe inspiring building. We went downstairs and had a quick snack at Juniors- so nice not to see any chain restaurants in this very very busy food fair. Back to 5th Avenue and walked many blocks to St. Patrick's Cathedral. Gail was looking very much like she needed a little bit of religion especially as she had been so badly behaved over the weekend in Toronto. Well, just for her a mass had just started. We went to a pew and stayed for the remainder. It is a beautiful building and there was a tenor singing hymns - very lovely really. I lit a candle......then on to Trump Tower. We kept watching for famous people but alas none. We did buy a couple of knock off Pashmina shawls for $5.00 each from a street vendor- very nice- just right for the Langworthy Lounge tomorrow night- they will all think we shopped especially for the evening :) After Trump Tower we walked through Central Park for at least an hour- maybe more- found the famous fountain where the Friends opening sequence was filmed- and of course Strawberry Fields- at which point the charge on my camera died!!! Oh well I guess we will have to go back. Then past the Dakota apartment building where John Lennon lived and was shot to death; on to Columbus Circle to head back in the home direction. When we reached the Lincoln Center complex there was a live filming of some famous young magican guy David Blaine (never heard of him)- who was inside a plastic bubble filled with water - in a divers suit and all. He went in there yesterday and is supposed to stay a week. Live worldwide coverage we were told by a NYC cop. Speaking of which I have never in my life seen so many policemen. They are everywhere- four outside the Bank of America on the way home- and at least two or three on every block- just watching the people. Anyway, back to Lincoln Center (it's hard for me to spell it center not centre) lol, we went into the lobby of the Metropolitan opera and bought tickets for Rigoletto next Tuesday night. Another Pashmina shawl occasion! Finally we both felt our feet barking at us so other than a quick detour as we were heading back down 8th Avenue to see Carnegie Hall (lobby not at all impressive) we once again picked up dinner to take home which is where I now am updating my blog. We arrived at 5:30 - eight hours almost all on our feet! Ceci and Graeme emailed to say they are joining us for the weekend so God help us another weekend with our wild friends is apparently ahead of us!!!
