Our Last Saturday

The weather turned beautiful again so it was another walking day. We hadn't really walked around the east side at all so that is the direction we headed. We walked partly up on Madison Ave then went a bit further east to Park Ave. It is a beautiful street with a lovely boulevard in the middle. Very high class- no street vendors- few shops- just apartments and offices and the Waldorf Astoria hotel. Then around this area we walked by a some of the famous department stores- Saks and Bloomingdales. This end of Manhattan has all the very very expensive shops Prada, Gucci and such. Once we arrived close to Central Park we went back to 5th Avenue and walked for a while along the park but decided eventually to go inside. It was very crowded of course because it was Saturday and sunny. We found a beautiful statue of Alice in Wonderland- filled with kids climbing on it- reminded me a bit of Peter Pan in Bowring Park. We also went by the little lake where you can rent toy boats to sail with a remote control. Very peaceful and lovely. We stopped for a while and bought an ice cream. Halfway up the east side of the park is the Metropolitan Museum and so we went inside. It was packed - you never have enough time to see this great museum- it was my third time there. I am always so fascinated with the enormous fresh floral bouquets that are in the lobby- a permanent bequest from a very rich woman's estate. When we left we walked through the park again to the Upper West Side . Another long walk. When we arrived at Columbus Circle we noticed the Time Warner Building for the first time and went inside. What a surprise! It contained the closest thing to a real shopping mall here in NYC. It was quite big but we didn't stay too long. Back down along the west side - you have no idea how much walking this all was- when we arrived home it was all I could do to drag my feet to the tub for a good soak- blisters for the first time!

Hi Guys,
I'm glad you had a great trip. You do know how to vacation!!! From this perspective it sounds like the trip of a lifetime. I'm sure Mom would have loved every minute of it. Take care and see you both in July.
