Tuesday and Wednesday

Yesterday, we had a nice long walk around the Chelsea area and visited the Chelsea Market. It was fun- something like Granville market but all the shops were within their own walls. It is also where the Food Network is located. There were quite a few people waiting in line to see Emeril's show. They had tickets to the afternoon taping. Afterwards, we went for lunch in a real New York diner. Most of these diners are owned by Greeks. The menus are enormous and amazingly cheap, especially as the plates are huge. Afterwards we came home and I crashed for a couple of hours. We took the subway uptown to the Met as we had tickets to Rigoletto. I am becoming quite an opera fan. The sets were great and of course the Metropolitan opera house was beautiful. I was surprised to hear music that I recognised as I had never seen this opera before- even though it was produced in Victoria last month. Afterwards we took the subway home- too far at thirty five blocks to walk at night- especially as it was spitting rain.

Today, we walked to Times Square as Wednesday and Saturday are the only days that the Broadway shows have matinees. We decided to try the half price ticket booth in Times Square to see if we could get anything of interest. We were very happy to get orchestra seats to The Producers. It was a musical that Gail particularly wanted to see. It has won more Tony awards than any other musical on Broadway EVER! It was very funny, very camp- typical Mel Brooks. Before the show we walked around Central Park for a couple of hours. The weather is iffy, cloudy and then sunny and then cloudy again. It was just right for a long walk though because we didn't get too hot. I just saw a cruise ship go down the Hudson River. We usually see at least one a day, either in the morning or night! My pictures are mostly washed out looking, don't know why!! I'm not a great photographer! Anyway here are some photos our evening view from the bedroom of the top of the Empire State building, the cruise ship from a few minutes ago and a marvelous sunset from our deck! By the way, if you click on any of the photos that I have posted, you should be able to see a larger and more clear image. Hope you are all enjoying my daily reports!
